"For the first time in modern history": the complexity of building the floating dock "Kapitan Anatoliy Ermolaev" revealed

The third block of the Project 17692 floating dock was launched at the "Yantar" shipyard

Shipbuilders of the Kaliningrad shipyard "Yantar" launched the 3rd block (pontoon) of the floating dock "Kapitan Anatoliy Ermolaev" (Project 17692) under construction. The engineering structure is designed for moving ships and vessels from the slipway to the water, with a length of up to 158 m, a width of up to 23.4 m, and a weight of up to 10,000 tons.

The metal floating dock will consist of 6 interconnected blocks. Two towers with 2 cranes will be placed on its board.

For the first time in modern history, we will be docking such large-scale structures. For our enterprise, this is a unique engineering operation, a kind of challenge.
Sergey Chertov, Chief Engineer of the "Yantar" shipyard

When the trestle is removed, "Kapitan Anatoliy Ermolaev" switches from the mode of launching/lifting vessels to the mode of extended docking. Workers will be able to repair ships and vessels up to 158 m long, 28 m wide, with a docking weight of up to 12,500 tons.

The engineering structure was named after Anatoliy Ermolaev, a factory worker. Over 50 years of work at the enterprise, he rose from captain of tugboat shop No. 2 to captain of "Yantar". His duties included coordinating the movement of ships under construction and repair, as well as conducting mooring and sea trials.
