The majority of Russians are most afraid not of losing their jobs due to artificial intelligence, but of becoming dependent on it. The MWS AI study examined various types of fears associated with the development of AI. Only 2% of respondents stated that they had no concerns about this.
The most common fear was dependence on artificial intelligence technologies – 40% of survey participants noted it. In second place were concerns about loss of privacy and possible surveillance (28%). Another 20% of respondents expressed anxiety about the global trend towards the possible use of AI for military purposes.
At the same time, the fear of dependence was significantly higher than other risks. For comparison, only 9% of respondents are afraid of losing their jobs due to the introduction of AI. Dependence on AI is feared almost equally by men (38%) and women (41%).
However, in other fears, the differences are more noticeable: men more often talk about the military use of AI (25% versus 17% for women), and women – about surveillance and loss of privacy (30% versus 23% for men).
