The formation of the reactor building's containment zone at Akkuyu NPP Unit 2 has been completed after the installation of the inner containment dome. The work was carried out by Akkuyu Nuclear project specialists, using a heavy self-propelled crawler crane and involving about 40 employees.
The installation of the inner containment dome was one of the key stages in the construction of the power unit. Approximately seven hours passed from the start of lifting to the installation of the structure in its design position.
The dome consists of 15 mounting sections made of special steel. Its enlarged assembly was carried out over four months directly next to the reactor building. Before this, the sections were delivered to the construction site by road and sea transport.
After the installation is completed, builders will proceed with welding the dome to the cylindrical part of the inner containment. This will create a fully sealed volume for the reactor compartment. The next stage will be the reinforcement and concreting of the protective structure.
Sergey Butskikh, General Director of Akkuyu Nuclear, noted that the successful completion of the operation was the result of extensive preparation, including the manufacturing and delivery of sections, assembly of the structure, welding work, and preparation for lifting. According to him, hundreds of specialists of various professions participated in the project's implementation – engineers, installers, welders, slingers, crane operators, and other employees.
