MC-21 Release Delay Linked to Wing Issues

Problems pushed the airliner program back by two years

Sanctions shifted the MC-21 new aircraft development program to the right by two years, but Russian companies managed. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to him, aircraft manufacturers were among the first to feel the consequences of restrictions, facing violations of obligations for the supply and maintenance of aircraft, as well as restrictions on international transportation.

I remember very well when the MC-21, yes, there were problems with the wing. But, yes, unfortunately, this pushed the entire program back by almost two years, but still our company… coped with this task.

First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov clarified that the certification of the MC-21 in its import-substituted form is planned for the end of 2027. He specified that these are not final deadlines.

MC-21 Chief Designer Vitaly Naryshkin called the airliner the most technologically advanced aircraft in the world.
