Russia has offered India the advanced next-generation long-range radar detection system A-100 "Premier", positioning it as a more modern replacement for existing AWACS-class solutions. This was reported by IDRW.
The authors of the material note that Moscow is effectively exporting one of its most advanced developments in the airborne radar surveillance segment – the A-100 "Premier" complex.
This refers to a system created as an evolution of the long-range detection platform based on the Il-76MD-90A, with fundamentally updated onboard electronics and a radar complex with an active electronically scanned array (AESA).
According to the developers' concept, the A-100 is designed to address the tasks of detecting and tracking air, sea, and ground targets at long distances, while simultaneously managing aviation groups in real time. In the Russian logic, this is the next step after the A-50 and modernized A-50U variants, but with higher computing power and enhanced resistance to electronic jamming.
The Indian side is considered one of the key potential customers, as its current fleet of long-range radar detection aircraft is limited and requires updating, given the growing regional competition and the increasing complexity of the air situation in the Indo-Pacific region.
The publication notes that this is essentially an attempt to offer India a system that, in terms of sensor integration and air picture management, should compete with Western AWACS-class counterparts, but at the same time rely on the Russian platform school of heavy military transport aircraft.
