"Will have to solve on the fly": "Superjet" with PD-8 faces new risk

It's too early to talk about the real reliability of the aircraft

The PD-8 engine for the "Superjet" has received long-awaited certification, but this is not the end of the story for the power plant. Aircraft tests are still ongoing, all "childhood diseases" must be taken into account, warned Oleg Panteleev, executive director of the Aviaport agency.

According to him, it is clearly premature to talk about the real reliability of the aircraft and its systems now.

If something emerged during factory tests, by the time of certification, the developer tries to eliminate these problems. But if the aircraft are already flying, you have to work "on the fly".

Be-200 amphibious aircraft are also being re-engined with the PD-8. Earlier, there was a rumor that the engine would become the base for a new business jet in Ulyanovsk based on the SJ-100.

ODK emphasized that the creation of the PD-8 is unique in world experience. The development of the power plant took six years, there have been no such precedents in history.
