KamAZ-based laboratory in Africa redeployed to Congo border to combat Ebola fever

Over 1,500 studies of material from infected individuals have been conducted in the special vehicle

The Russian mobile laboratory based on a KamAZ truck, transferred to Uganda, played an important role in countering the Ebola fever outbreak. The vehicle was promptly redeployed to northern Uganda – to the border with the most affected Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan, Rospotrebnadzor reported.

With the help of this laboratory, Russian and Ugandan specialists organized rapid testing of material from 60 people who entered from the DRC with suspected Ebola fever. Environmental monitoring was also carried out. In total, more than 1,500 laboratory tests of biomaterial from patients and individuals suspected of infection were conducted jointly.

The work of the mobile laboratory became part of a large-scale program to assist African countries in combating infections, the launch of which President Vladimir Putin announced at the "Russia – Africa" summit in July 2023. Its tasks include rapid diagnosis of dangerous infections in the field. In addition to Uganda, Rospotrebnadzor provided scientific and methodological support to specialists from the Republic of Congo, where 25 Congolese specialists were trained in a short time and the work of a mobile laboratory was organized at a border crossing point with the DRC.
