Critical Load for the Engine: Russians Told How to Save Car Engine in the Heat

Expert Ashurkov: Driving in traffic jams is the most difficult operating mode for the power unit

Driving a car in traffic jams during abnormal heat is the most difficult operating mode for the engine. This was stated by auto expert Vyacheslav Ashurkov. He gave several tips to motorists.

According to him, uniform operation of the power unit is more beneficial than in a stop-and-go mode. For example, driving on a highway is a uniform mode, while in traffic jams, the car constantly starts and then stops.

This load can be compared to starting an engine in winter after a frosty night.

The engine's operating temperature is 90°C. If the thermometer needle starts to rise, a number of measures must be taken, Ashurkov emphasized. First, the air conditioner, which creates a critical load, should be turned off. An unconventional method can help reduce the temperature.

If you turn on the heater, you will draw some of the heat into the cabin.

To avoid suffocating from the heat, open all windows in the car, he advised. But if this does not help, it is better to pull over to the side of the road and turn off the engine to give it time to cool down.

Ashurkov also recommended checking the coolant level in the expansion tank before driving. If the engine overheats, it threatens costly repairs, the specialist concluded.
