In St. Petersburg, Renault cars lead among foreign cars that owners trade in for new Lada vehicles. Their share among all foreign cars involved in such deals is 16%, "Pervy Tekhnichesky" was informed by the press service of the Pragmatika dealership network. Hyundai is in second place (9%), and Nissan is in third (7%).
Opel, Skoda, and Chery each account for 6%. Kia and Volkswagen each account for 5%, and Suzuki and Chevrolet each account for 4%. Among models, Renault Logan, Hyundai Solaris, and Nissan Almera are most often traded in for new Ladas.
The majority of foreign cars traded in were manufactured between 2010 and 2014 – their share is 38%. The peak is for 2012 models. The average mileage for cars involved in these deals is 208 thousand kilometers. The maximum mileage was recorded for a 1993 Toyota Corona sedan – 618.3 thousand kilometers, and the minimum for a Belgee X70 crossover (12.1 thousand kilometers).
The oldest car traded in for a new Lada was a 1988 Volkswagen Passat with a mileage of 373.2 thousand kilometers.
Renault leads in trade-ins because previously, certain models of the two brands were produced on the same platform, had similar characteristics, and were in the same price segment, explained the Pragmatika network. In addition, until 2022, Renault was one of the leaders in the Russian market, which formed a large fleet of cars whose owners are now ready to exchange them for new Ladas. The high share of 2010–2014 cars is explained by the active expansion of foreign brands in the mass segment during that period. A 10–15 year ownership period is a natural cycle when owners decide to upgrade their car due to wear and tear, technical problems, or the desire to switch to a more modern vehicle.
