Rosatom installs 300-ton reactor vessel at Kudankulam NPP Unit 5

Builders are now facing the installation of steam generators, pumps, and a pressurizer

The installation of a reactor vessel weighing approximately 300 tons has been completed at Unit 5 of the Kudankulam NPP in India. The work was carried out by Rosatom specialists and Indian builders, moving one of the country's largest nuclear projects to the next stage of implementation.

The equipment was installed using the Open Top method. This technology involves installing large components through the open top of the reactor building before the dome is mounted. This solution speeds up construction and reduces the complexity of subsequent operations.

The reactor vessel was manufactured at the Atommash enterprise in Volgodonsk. It was delivered to the Indian site in 2025, after which specialists prepared the equipment for final installation.

Now, the builders are moving on to the next important stage. At Unit 5, the main equipment of the reactor plant, including steam generators, main circulation pumps, and a pressurizer, will be installed.

Rosatom reported that Indian specialists are currently simultaneously constructing and preparing for commissioning four more power units designed according to the Russian project. Two operational units of the plant have been stably supplying the country with electricity for over ten years.
