The first power unit of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, which is being built using Rosatom technologies, will be ready in 2029. This was stated by the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Egypt, Mahmoud Esmat.
The construction site of the El Dabaa NPP is located on the Mediterranean coast in the Matrouh province. This is the first nuclear power plant for Egypt.
The facility will consist of four power units with Russian VVER-1200 reactor units (Generation 3+). Construction of units No. 1 and No. 2 began in 2022. Construction of unit No. 3 started the following year, and unit No. 4 in 2024. The total capacity of the NPP will be about 4.8 GW.
Rosatom's engineering division is the general designer and contractor for the project. This is the first NPP on the African continent for the state corporation.
