The International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS, which was expected to take place in 2026 after a previous postponement, will not be held again. The Russian government has excluded the event from the list of international exhibitions of military products planned for next year.
At the same time, the International Exhibition and Scientific Conference on Hydroaviation "Gidroaviasalon-2026" was also removed from the document. Its holding is now scheduled for September 2027 in Gelendzhik. The International Helicopter Technology and Aviation Systems Salon, which is to be held in Kazan in May–June, is also planned for 2027.
MAKS last welcomed visitors in person in the summer of 2021 at the Gromov Flight Research Institute airfield in Zhukovsky. At that time, the air show gathered more than 135 thousand guests, united 831 companies from 56 countries, and 202 aircraft were presented in the flight and static displays.
After that, the event never returned to its usual format. In 2024, the project existed as a digital showcase where aviation and defense industry enterprises demonstrated their developments and solutions, including those related to import substitution.
