A luxurious business jet worth 15 billion rubles is secretly being prepared in Ulyanovsk

The SJ-100 with extended range could be the basis for the liner

One of the most ambitious aviation projects of recent years is being prepared for development in Ulyanovsk. Aurus-Aero plans to establish production of Aurus family business jets based on the SJ-100 with boosted PD-8 engines in the special economic zone, Kommersant reported.

The new site plans to organize unit and final assembly of aircraft, factory and certification tests, maintenance, and after-sales support. The land plot has already been allocated, and the project itself has received support from regional authorities.

However, Oleg Panteleev, executive director of the Aviaport agency, warned that the project would only be economically viable if it entered foreign markets.

And if an agreement can be reached with a foreign investor who will provide not only investments but also a sales market, then the project may well pay off.

The volume of investments is estimated at 15.37 billion rubles, of which more than 13 billion will be attracted from external investors. Other details of the project are not yet known.

Earlier, media reported that the Ulyanovsk Port Special Economic Zone (PSEZ) would deploy the production of new Russian business jets based on the Soviet-era Tu-324 project.
