TMH Completes DP2D Tests: 30 New Trains Prepared for Production

The train, consisting of a TEP70BS locomotive and EP2DM carriages, is preparing to receive certification

The new Russian diesel train DP2D has been approved for serial production. The acceptance committee confirmed the train's compliance with all requirements and determined an initial series of 30 trains. The project was developed and implemented by Transmashholding enterprises for operation on non-electrified railway lines with varying passenger traffic.

Following the review of preliminary and acceptance test results, the train was assigned the O1 letter, which signifies the design's readiness for the next stage of production development.

The DP2D was created as a solution for regional routes where passenger volumes vary depending on the season and time of day. The train is built on a modular scheme: the core is a TEP70BS passenger diesel locomotive, to which two to six carriages, unified with EP2DM electric trains, can be attached. Depending on the configuration, the train can carry from 172 to 636 passengers. The design speed reaches 120 km/h, and the estimated service life is 32 years.

To integrate the locomotive and carriages, engineers had to refine both platforms. The locomotive received additional inter-car connections, ensuring the exchange of control commands and diagnostic information. Displays appeared in the cab to monitor the train's condition and display images from surveillance cameras. Also, the driver can now control the external doors of the carriages and use the passenger communication system.

Special attention was paid to comfort. The salons are equipped with ergonomic seats with USB Type-A and Type-C ports for charging mobile devices. Climate control systems maintain a set temperature and disinfect the air, while LCD displays inform passengers about the route. Several carriages are equipped with bicycle mounts.
