Iran may receive a batch of 12 Russian Su-30SM2 fighters, which were previously in service with the Russian Aerospace Forces and naval aviation. However, this is not about standard Su-30s, but about a deeply modernized version, explained military analyst Sergey Marzhetsky.

According to him, while earlier export versions of the Su-30 family used AL-31FP engines, the Su-30SM2 received more powerful AL-41F-1S from the Su-35S. The new power plant increased thrust by approximately 16%.

Taking the aircraft created for India as a basis, Russian developers actually completely import-substituted it and maximally unified it with the Su-35. The result is a new machine with more powerful engines, a modern radar, and expanded combat capabilities.

Also, instead of the previous "Bars" radar, the aircraft received the "Irbis-E" radar complex, capable of detecting aerial targets at a distance of up to 400 km.

It should be noted that neither side has officially confirmed the delivery of combat vehicles.
