Far East Scientists Find Way to Double Battery Capacity

FEFU scientists developed a new cathode material

Scientists from the Far Eastern Federal University have developed a material that could significantly change the lithium-ion battery market. Researchers managed to almost double the capacity of the cathode material for batteries.

The development is based on the well-known lithium vanadium phosphate. Scientists used ordinary citric acid as a carbon source.

After heat treatment at temperatures up to 900 degrees Celsius, a thin carbon shell formed around the material particles. It simultaneously improves electrical current flow and protects the cathode from the destructive effects of the electrolyte.

As a result, researchers obtained a material with double the capacity. Moreover, after 25 charge and discharge cycles, it retained 100% of its initial characteristics.
