Moscow Metro to be extended to Skolkovo and Yaroslavsky District: seven new stations to appear

Residents of the capital will be able to travel around the city 20-25 minutes faster

Seven new metro stations are planned to be built in Moscow. The blue Filyovskaya line is to be extended from "Kuntsevskaya" to Skolkovo, and the red Sokolnicheskaya line from "Bulvar Rokossovskogo" to Yaroslavsky District. For residents, travel time around the city could be reduced by 20–25 minutes. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin announced the plans.

Five stations to appear on the way to Skolkovo

The new section of the Filyovskaya line will stretch for approximately 12 kilometers. Five stations are planned to be opened on it: "Vereyskaya", "Skolkovskoye Shosse", "Marfino", "Skolkovo", and "Meditsinsky Tsentr".

The metro extension will improve transport accessibility for the Fili-Davydkovo, Kuntsevo, Ochakovo-Matveevskoye, and Mozhaysky districts. About 320 thousand people will live near the future stations, and their travel time around the city could be 25 minutes shorter.

As Sobyanin noted, the area around the new section is actively developing. Scientific and technological and medical clusters are being created here, and residential quarters and social facilities are being built.

Red line to be extended to Yaroslavsky District

The Sokolnicheskaya line is planned to be extended northeast from the "Bulvar Rokossovskogo" station. The length of the new section will be 8.1 kilometers.

Two stations are planned to be built on it – "MGSU" and "Yaroslavskaya", also known as "Kholmogorskaya". After the opening of the section, the metro will be within walking distance for most residents and workers of the Yaroslavsky District. Travel time for them will be reduced by approximately 20 minutes.

Trains will run more frequently

After the lines are extended, authorities expect to reduce the intervals between trains. On the Sokolnicheskaya line, trains will run approximately every one and a half minutes, and on the Filyovskaya line – approximately every three minutes.

In the future, longer trains with seven carriages are also planned to be launched on the blue line.
