AvtoVAZ has revealed the engine evolution schedule for the Lada Azimut and Lada Aura models. As company head Maxim Sokolov stated during a test drive with Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, in 2027, the Azimut crossover will receive a turbocharged engine with 150 horsepower paired with a classic hydromechanical automatic transmission.
At the start of sales, scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026, the Azimut will be offered with two naturally aspirated engines: a 1.6-liter unit with 122 horsepower and a 1.8-liter unit with 135 horsepower. The introduction of the turbo version will be a key update for the model, as the combination of a turbo engine and a hydromechanical automatic transmission should put the crossover on par with competitors not only in price but also in driving experience.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the Lada Aura sedan, which is currently equipped only with a 1.8-liter engine with 122 horsepower, will receive a more powerful 135-horsepower naturally aspirated engine in 2027.
After the trip, Siluanov noted that he "would like the Aura engine to be a bit more powerful." AvtoVAZ has not yet confirmed a turbo version for the extended sedan.
Thus, the plant is methodically expanding its engine range: from basic naturally aspirated engines to turbo engines and automatic transmissions, gradually bringing Lada up to the technical level of foreign competitors.
