An-2 now flies 1700 km with 200-liter tanks and a 360-degree radar

The "Russkaya Arktika" project runs on regular 95-octane gasoline

The legendary An-2 biplane has received an unexpected continuation. Engineers from the "Russkaya Arktika" project have developed a deep modernization of the famous "kukuruznik" (crop duster), details of which were shared by designer Yuri Petrov.

While the classic An-2 has a wingspan of 18 m, the new version boasts up to 20.57 m. This allowed for the placement of additional 200-liter fuel tanks in each half-wing. The flight range increased from 1300 to 1700 km while maintaining the payload.

It's a small AWACS, but it has an advantage: "Russkaya Arktika", unlike the huge A-50U, can hide behind terrain folds.

The upgraded An-2 retained its famous ASh-62IR engine, but the engine has been seriously modernized. The aircraft received a modern turbocharger; the practical ceiling almost doubled to 4500 m. Moreover, the engine now runs even on regular automotive AI-95 gasoline.

The aircraft was also equipped with an onboard 360-degree radar, GLONASS systems, electronic warfare equipment, and satellite navigation. In addition, drone operators and the drones themselves can be accommodated on board.
