Chkalov International Airport in Nizhny Novgorod has applied to connect to the service of pre-flight passenger verification during boarding using biometrics. Access to it may be opened in 2026. This was stated by the head of the Russian Ministry of Transport, Andrey Nikitin, on the sidelines of the SPIEF.
Gradually, all our major airports will switch to biometrics. We will not force anyone, but it saves time for passengers and benefits the airport.
The introduction of biometrics primarily depends on the technical readiness of airport infrastructure and passenger traffic. In addition, airlines must be interested in this, the minister concluded.
Since June 1, biometric boarding has been introduced on Aeroflot Shuttle program flights between Moscow and St. Petersburg. It is used by passengers departing from Sheremetyevo.
