Domestic production instead of imports: 570 million rubles to be invested in a pyrotechnic igniter plant for airbags in Ulyanovsk

The enterprise will be built in the Zavolzhye industrial park with the support of the Industrial Development Fund

The Russian automotive component holding MGC Group plans to establish production of pyrotechnic igniters for airbags in the Ulyanovsk region. Investments in the project will amount to at least 570 million rubles, the regional government's press service reported. A corresponding letter of intent was signed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Governor of the region Alexey Russkikh instructed to ensure comprehensive support for the project at all stages of implementation. A new building with an area of 1.3 thousand square meters will be constructed in the Zavolzhye industrial park. The investment project will be financed by a preferential loan from the Industrial Development Fund under the "Auto Components" program.

MGC Group is one of the largest Russian consolidators of foreign automotive component assets that have ceased operations in Russia. In 2023–2024, the group acquired the Russian plants of Canadian Magna in St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod, as well as the Ulyanovsk plant Joyson Safety Systems, which produces steering systems, seat belts, and airbags for AvtoVAZ. At the end of 2025, the asset portfolio was supplemented by enterprises for the production of interior elements for cars in the Leningrad region and the Volga region, previously owned by the Spanish Grupo Antolin.

The owner of MGC Group is Olga Savelyeva (99.99%), with Oleg Tenitsky holding another 0.01%. CEO Pavel Sereda previously headed the Gorky Automobile Plant and held management positions in the GAZ Group and GK "1520". The new production of pyrotechnic igniters will strengthen the holding's position in the automotive passive safety systems segment.
