Private space company Space Energy is accelerating a project that could break the state's monopoly on launch infrastructure. Company CEO Georgy Emelin told TASS that the parties have reached the stage of preliminary signing of an agreement for the construction of Russia's first private cosmodrome. Regular consultations are currently underway with the government of Primorsky Krai, the Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, and relevant federal agencies.
The key task at the moment is to select the optimal site. Immediately after identifying promising locations, within one to two weeks, engineering and geodetic surveys and soil assessments will begin to confirm the feasibility of placing the launch complex. The option of linking to advanced development territories is being considered, which will give the project access to state investment support measures.
Space Energy's priority is to create its own space products, including launch vehicles, satellite platforms for small spacecraft, and orbital constellations for data transmission. The appearance of a private cosmodrome in Primorye, in close proximity to Asian markets and with a favorable geography for launches into polar and sun-synchronous orbits, can reshape the balance of power in Russian cosmonautics, creating a full-fledged commercial segment that has long and successfully operated in the West.
