Mamakan HPP Reaches Design Capacity

The station's throughput increased by 30% - an additional 28 MW of energy was supplied to the grid

The Mamakan Hydroelectric Power Plant has brought a new 28 MW hydro-unit to its design capacity, completing the first stage of a large-scale modernization. The work was carried out by engineering teams from MGES and the general contractor in permafrost conditions, using Russian-made equipment.

The installed capacity of the unit increased by 30% compared to the previous installation. Specialists completely updated the hydroturbine, generator, and automatic control systems. This will cover the growing demand for electricity in the Bodaibo and Mamsko-Chuysky districts.

Roman Kolesov, First Deputy Governor of the Irkutsk Region, noted that after the modernization of all four units, the region's energy system will receive a power increase of about 30%. The remaining three hydro-units are planned to be modernized sequentially to bring the total capacity of the station to 112 MW by 2030.

The project's implementation is directly related to the development of the Bodaibo industrial hub, where Polyus company is the key energy consumer. This is critically important during the construction of the mining and processing plant at the Sukhoi Log deposit.

The start of work on replacing the next hydro-unit is scheduled for autumn 2026.
