The Ministry of Industry and Trade and PAO "Yakovlev" have signed a contract for the development of a shortened version of the MS-21 aircraft. In total, there are currently 20 aircraft under development at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant.
The publication "Tekhnosfera Rossiya" explained that the new machine could be named MS-21-210. This is already the third version of the MS-21 in history.
The MS-21-210 is a machine of smaller capacity: its maximum load will be 160–170 passengers instead of 170–211 for the MS-21-310. The aircraft's weight will decrease by 6–7 tons, and the range should exceed 6000 km. All other parameters remained the same.
Aviation expert Roman Gusarov explained to "Pervyy Tekhnicheskiy" that the modest range of the MS-21 at 3800 km is not the limit of its capabilities.
The aircraft is yet to follow the path of the Boeing 737, which increased its flight capabilities through modernization.
