British Defence Minister John Healey's Dassault Falcon 900LX aircraft experienced a satellite navigation failure while flying near the Russian border, The Times newspaper reported.
According to the publication, the incident occurred during Healey's return from Estonia to the UK after visiting British troops. The government aircraft lost its GPS signal.
Journalists claim that the pilots had to switch to an inertial navigation system. The malfunction lasted almost the entire three-hour flight, and it was impossible to restore the satellite equipment's operation in the air.
Military advisors, a lieutenant general, journalists, and photographers were on board with the minister. The official cause of the incident has not yet been disclosed, but the newspaper claims that the communication failure allegedly occurred near Russia's borders. Journalists speculate: it remains unclear whether the minister's aircraft was a deliberate target of an attack or if it accidentally entered the zone of Russian electronic warfare jammers.
