Additional mirrors may be mandated for right-hand drive cars in Russia

Senator Tsepkin: The largest share of such cars is in the Far East

Right-hand drive vehicles need to be adapted to Russian roads by mandating the installation of additional mirrors on them. This opinion was expressed by Oleg Tsepkin, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building.

The largest share of right-hand drive cars is in the Far East due to its proximity to Asian countries where these cars are produced, the senator noted.

It is important to assess the number of traffic violations, and then, based on the analysis of this data, make a decision on the need for additional training for drivers of right-hand drive cars.

If the government establishes new requirements for right-hand drive vehicles, their implementation must be controlled, Tsepkin concluded.

According to Autostat data for September 2025, almost 4 million passenger cars and 645 thousand commercial vehicles with right-hand drive are registered in Russia. More than half of them are Toyota.
