A "technological breakthrough" in the field of import substitution has led to uncomfortable questions. 1.3 billion rubles were allocated for the development of the Russian "Irtysh" processor, but a Chinese Loongson with a re-glued lid could have been hidden under the domestic brand.
CNews reported that the characteristics of the "Irtysh C632" and "Irtysh C616" models almost completely match the Chinese Loongson LS3C6000/D and LS3C6000/S processors, respectively.
Loongson historically developed based on MIPS — a platform whose roots go back to mid-1990s technologies and solutions used, among other things, in the Nintendo 64 game console.
After verification, the Ministry of Industry and Trade did not rush to include "Irtysh" in the register of domestic equipment. The department pointed out possible risks of dependence on foreign technologies.
At the same time, the developer company "Tramplin Electronics" rejects accusations of simple copying. They state that in Russia they performed platform adaptation, integration, software and hardware development, as well as testing and preparation for production.
We are ready for verification procedures and provide all necessary documents confirming the origin of our processors.
The situation may also affect the server equipment market — some Russian manufacturers have already presented prototype systems based on these processors.
