Poland Lifts Restrictions on Thousands of "Belarus" Tractors

MTZ equipment proved more in demand than expensive Western counterparts

Polish authorities have allowed the legal use of thousands of "Belarus" tractors, which had been operating in the country with restrictions since 2016 due to European regulations. The decision was a concession to farmers who continued to buy Belarusian equipment despite bureaucratic prohibitions.

This concerns approximately eight thousand machines that previously could not be officially used on public roads. Now, owners only need to pass a technical inspection and obtain a special mark in their documents.

The conflict arose from EU requirements regarding noise, emissions, and technical standards. Because of this, Belarusian tractors could not obtain full registration, although demand for them among Polish farmers continued to grow.

Polish farmers chose MTZ equipment due to its affordability, simple design, and inexpensive repairs. Amid problems with the local manufacturer Ursus and high prices for Western models, Belarusian machines proved to be a more cost-effective option for small farms.
