Overtaking China: Russia Enters Top Five Countries Independently Developing Aircraft Engines

Russian Prime Minister called PD-14 and PD-8 examples of technological sovereignty

Russia has confirmed its status as one of five powers capable of independently designing, manufacturing, and supporting the life cycle of modern aircraft engines. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin stated this at the CIPR conference.

The head of government noted that countries with a full engine development cycle include the USA, France, Great Britain, and Canada. China, according to him, is actively developing its own technologies but is still in the nascent stage.

Mishustin emphasized: Russia's possession of such competence is a strategic advantage that is difficult to overestimate.

We all must understand that our engine-building industry is currently among the top five countries in the world that can independently design, create, and naturally, new, effective solutions, and support their operational life cycle.

He added that this is not just about replacing imported components, but about creating domestic units using Russian design systems and production management. As an example, Mishustin cited the developments of JSC "United Engine Corporation" (part of "Rostec"): the PD-8 and PD-14 engines were created using domestic engineering solutions and software.
