Laser air defense power against drones increased to 90 kW without overheating

Manturov: installations are used to counter UAVs

The power of Russian anti-drone laser systems ranges from 4 to 90 kW. This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov.

According to him, the power level of the complexes constantly varies. With their help, the military destroys, among other things, unmanned aircraft.

This is what is used directly to ensure the protection of critical infrastructure and counter UAVs. There are also special lasers, the characteristics of which I cannot discuss now.

The main problem of laser air defense is the need for cooling after each shot. Unlike classic air defense systems, a laser cannot continuously fire at a large number of targets without pauses.

Analysts from "Voennaya Khronika" noted that the military used the Shen Nung 3000 laser complex or its analogue based on elemental components with a power of about 20 kW.

But the modernization potential provides the ability to increase power up to 35 kW, and consequently, the range. One emission cycle, according to official performance characteristics, can reach 200 seconds.

Laser air defense is being created as part of the "Posokh" project. To increase efficiency, the system was integrated with radar, which allows for more accurate detection and tracking of "birds".
