The Rassvet satellite constellation, developed by Buro 1440, a company within the X Holding structure, is not a complete analogue of the American Starlink system. Alexey Shelobkov, CEO of X Holding and Buro 1440, stated this in an interview with RBC. According to him, the comparison with Starlink is a natural market reaction, but the Russian project is being created with its own architecture and should advance satellite communications further, not copy existing solutions.
Each subsequent company will not repeat what the previous one did: it will move the development of communication forward.
He emphasized that Buro 1440 independently develops key technologies, systems, and components within the company, which allows for building a more independent infrastructure and a manageable project economy.
One of the main differences of Rassvet, according to the company, is the use of 5G NTN architecture, which should ensure closer integration of satellite communications with mobile networks and next-generation devices. In addition, the project is positioned not only as satellite internet but as an infrastructure platform for transport, industry, communication operators, and remote territories of Russia.
In late March, Buro 1440 launched the first 16 satellites of the new low-orbit constellation into orbit. The spacecraft received 5G NTN support, a new generation laser inter-satellite communication system, updated power supply, and plasma engines.
