Russia is assembling a rare-earth alliance around Central Asia

Regional deposits could be linked to industrial capacities of the Russian Federation and China

Russia is ready to develop joint projects for the extraction and processing of rare-earth metals in Central Asian countries, despite having its own reserves. This was stated by Alexander Sternik, Director of the Third CIS Countries Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to him, Moscow offers partners not just the purchase of raw materials, but full-fledged cooperation — personnel training, joint research, and production projects.

Sternik noted that the mining infrastructure in Central Asian countries has largely been preserved since the times of the USSR, and the region itself remains promising in terms of mineral extraction.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also pointed to the possible development of cooperation with China. According to Sternik, Central Asian resources can be linked to the industrial capacities of Russia and China through common infrastructure, and Chinese technologies and financial capabilities can accelerate the industry's development.

He emphasized that having its own resources does not prevent Russia from participating in international raw material projects — a similar approach was previously applied in the oil and gas sector.
