Russian troops of the "Sever" group are actively using new BM-70 reconnaissance and strike drones in combat. The published footage (taken before the ceasefire was announced) shows these devices striking enemy targets.
BM-70 drones are used for several tasks at once: reconnaissance, target selection for future strikes, and direct target engagement. The speed of the device reaches 150–200 kilometers per hour. For comparison, ordinary reconnaissance UAVs fly 2.5–4 times slower – their speed is 40–60 kilometers per hour.
The BM-70 drone was developed by the "Besplotnye Sistemy" Design Bureau and first presented at the "Army-2023" forum. The development was carried out taking into account the experience of combat use of drones. The product is made according to the "flying wing" scheme and has low radar visibility. The device is equipped with a domestic guidance system and can carry different combat loads depending on the task. Serial production of the BM-70 was launched in 2024.
