The Superjet 100 retains its potential for further development, but the aircraft will have to go through a stage of technical modernization and adaptation to new operating conditions. This was stated by Honored Pilot of the USSR Oleg Smirnov, commenting on the prospects of the Russian airliner.
According to the expert, the project cannot be considered unpromising, as the aircraft has already taken its place in regional transportation and continues to be used by airlines. However, the future of the Superjet will largely depend on engine modernization, maintenance costs, and operational expenses.
Manufacturers must produce equipment that would create fierce competition for Western models, then the certificate will be obtained quickly.
The expert emphasized that equipment upgrades will inevitably lead to increased costs, but without this, the program's development will be difficult. He also added that for successful Superjet operation, it is important for the manufacturer to maintain a balance between technological development and economic efficiency for carriers.
Smirnov recalled that the Superjet 100 was originally created as a mass regional aircraft, so its further development is directly related to the ability to make operations more convenient and profitable for airlines.
It should be noted that the day before, aviation expert Roman Gusarov gave a harsh forecast for the fleet of "old" Superjets, and also explained the difference between the current operational aircraft and promising developments of these machines.
