Every military unit of the Russian Armed Forces already has regular units whose task is to work with unmanned aerial vehicles. This was stated by Rustam Saifullin, Deputy Head of the Tyumen Higher Military Engineering Command School, Hero of Russia.
In the Engineering Troops of the Russian Armed Forces, UAVs perform various functions, including demining and delivering electronic warfare systems to suppress enemy drone signals.
And then, depending on the tasks, it's either destroying equipment or mining the area. Both ammunition and food are delivered with the help of UAVs.
Saifullin emphasized that any enemy drone complicates the work. But it's "a battle of shield and sword," he added.
Soldiers also resort to the traditional method of combating UAVs with small arms. Each engineering crew has a soldier with a shotgun, "to hit an enemy drone at close contact," Saifullin concluded.
Demining with UAVs
Russia is actively developing the field of demining with drones. Such drones are divided into 2 types: reconnaissance drones search for mines, attack drones detonate them.
The first type most often includes FPV drones with high-resolution cameras and integrated artificial intelligence. The second type includes small-sized UAVs with a short operating range, such as "Kokoshnik" (Center for Integrated Unmanned Solutions). They are equipped with a warhead that is remotely activated to neutralize enemy mines.
