The new Russian long-haul aircraft Il-96-400 is significantly inferior to Western counterparts in economic characteristics. This is what puts an end to its mass production, said aviation expert, editor-in-chief of the portal Avia.ru Roman Gusarov.
According to him, there is currently a shortage of wide-body liners in Russia.
The Il-96-400 is an excellent aircraft, but it lacks modern engines. Therefore, in terms of economic characteristics, it is significantly inferior to Western counterparts. In this regard, it is not currently mass-produced. We are waiting for engine manufacturers to create appropriate engines.
Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov stated that the Il-96-400M project will expand the fleet of civil aircraft and support the development of the route network. However, Gusarov clarified that the aircraft factory in Voronezh produces only one such liner every two years.
"Pervy Tekhnichesky" conducted a direct comparison of the Il-96-400M with the Boeing 777-300ER — the domestic liner lost on almost all parameters.
