"Tupolev" fined 12 billion rubles over Tu-214, at risk of bankruptcy

The court sided with "Tatneft" in a high-profile dispute

The Arbitration Court of the Republic of Tatarstan has ordered PAO "Tupolev" to pay 12 billion rubles in a lawsuit filed by "Tatneft" company. The court fully satisfied the plaintiff's claims. The oil company demanded over 11.7 billion rubles for unjust enrichment and more than 276 million rubles in interest.

The dispute is related to the delivery of Tu-214 aircraft for "UVT Aero" airline, owned by "Tatneft". "Tupolev" returned funds for only one aircraft. After that, the customer went to court. The manufacturer's representatives themselves stated that the lawsuit amount could lead to possible bankruptcy.

"Tupolev" is the head enterprise of OAK's special and strategic aviation division, a manufacturer of Tu-160 "White Swan" strategic missile carriers.

Independent expert Alexey Zakharov stated that the state will not allow the corporation to go bankrupt, despite significant financial claims.
