One phone game - millions of rubles lost: how scammers deceive Russians

Fraudsters disguise offers as "state programs" and persuade people to transfer funds

A simple mobile game can lead to financial loss – and we're not talking about hundreds of rubles. Scammers are increasingly using gaming applications as an "entry point" for attacks, and not only children but also adults are at risk. As the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs warned, criminals regularly use mobile games as a launching pad to deceive users.

The department reported a real case: a resident of Birobidzhan saw a pop-up advertisement while playing a game, offering easy money as part of an alleged state program. The woman entered her data, after which a "consultant" immediately called her.

She was then shown a fake exchange, persuaded to deposit money through an ATM, and then to involve a friend and a relative's funds under the pretext of paying a non-existent tax.

Ultimately, one game led to the loss of over four million rubles. In addition, loans were taken out in the friend's name, and the victim's own account on the "Gosuslugi" portal was hacked.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized that such schemes are not limited to "payments" only. Criminals use any relevant topics, including earnings, services, compensation, or social support. However, the scheme remains the same: the user clicks on a link, enters personal data, then receives a call and gradually falls into the hands of scammers.
