They want to make you a dropper: how fraudsters use the "reverse transfer" scheme

"Moshelovka" expert: The victim is drawn into a criminal chain of cashing out stolen funds

Fraudsters in Russia transfer money to citizens' bank cards and then ask them to return it to another account. If you comply with the request, your card may be blocked, said Galaktion Kuchava, an expert at the "Moshelovka" platform.

This is a trap, the purpose of which is to turn an honest citizen into a "drop", that is, an accomplice to a crime.

That is, the attackers are trying to draw "the victim into a criminal chain of cashing out stolen funds", he explained.

The money that came from a stranger is certainly stolen from a third party. And if the cardholder returns these funds, his details may end up in the database of the Central Bank of Russia on fraudulent transactions, Kuchava added.

According to current legislation, the bank has the right to suspend the use of the card while it is on the blacklist of the Central Bank of Russia. Access to funds can only be obtained after a personal appeal to the bank.

Kuchava advised not to return funds that fraudsters allegedly sent by mistake. In this case, you need to contact your bank and ask to initiate the procedure for an official return of the payment to the sender's details. In this case, criminals will not be able to frame you, the expert concluded.
