Replacement for "Balkancar": Russian Developers Showed a Light Electric Truck with Removable Batteries

The L6 class vehicle does not require registration with the State Automobile Inspectorate

The "Center for Creative Technologies" at the Caucasian Investment Forum showcased a light electric truck with a modular interchangeable battery system, according to the Telegram channel "Gruzoviki i voobshche". The vehicle is based on a production Chinese L6 class truck with a 3 kWh electric motor. It is equipped with two original modular batteries, each with a capacity of 30 Ah, providing a range of up to 50 kilometers. The number of battery compartments can be scaled depending on the required range.

The key idea behind the development is the quick replacement of energy storage devices. Instead of charging the electric vehicle, the user removes the discharged battery and installs a charged one. The process takes less than a minute. For convenient loading and unloading of batteries, the car frame has been modified. The batteries themselves have a comfortable handle for carrying and are placed in a sealed, thermostabilized compartment in the middle of the vehicle. Access to the compartment is restricted by a lid that opens from the cabin.

The declared payload capacity of the electric truck is up to 1200 kilograms, with a maximum speed limited to 50 km/h. The vehicle belongs to category L6, so it does not require registration with the traffic police. The presented sample is only a test version for practicing battery replacement technology. A standalone model of the same L6 class will go into mass production. The developers position it as a replacement for "Balkancar" trucks used in production, as well as other small trucks in agriculture, housing and communal services, and landscaping. Production is planned to be launched at one of the sites in the EAEU.
