New "Varvar" interceptor drones with speeds up to 250 km/h appeared in Russia

Lightweight devices weighing 3 kg will be able to autonomously intercept targets at a distance of up to 250 m

Interceptor drones called "Varvar" have been developed in Russia to protect civilian objects. The first batches are planned to be transferred to private security structures.

The device weighs about 3 kg. The maximum speed reaches 250 km/h. The range of automatic target acquisition is up to 250 m. The operating altitude and flight range are up to 2000 m. The operating time is up to 5 minutes.

The system is designed for autonomous interception of aerial targets. After launch by the operator, the drone independently detects the object, acquires it, and performs interception using artificial intelligence algorithms.

In essence, the operator only needs to launch the device — further actions are performed by the guidance system and the AI module.

However, military expert Evgeny Damantsev stated that "Varvar" would not be enough to create an echeloned defense of civilian objects.

Full integration with military air defense systems, electronic warfare stations, and typical anti-aircraft gun-missile systems is required.

Earlier, inventors in Kazan developed a new interceptor drone capable of hunting other drones, but with the ability to accelerate up to 300 km/h.
