Russia's largest marketplace, Ozon, is considering launching its own automated surface-mount technology (SMT) line for printed circuit boards. The production will be needed for electronics used in logistics devices — warehouse conveyors, 3D sorters, freight lifts, and other automation systems.
The new line will occupy about 100 square meters. Its capacity will be approximately 2,000 units per month. The company emphasizes that developing its own technologies based on Russian production facilities makes it possible to create more flexible, efficient, and cost-effective solutions compared with foreign counterparts.
At present, more than 8,200 engineers work on the Ozon Tech IT team. In its own robotics laboratory in Innopolis, the company has already established production of devices for automatically measuring the dimensions and weight of goods — Gauss and Batyr. The marketplace is also deploying 3D sorters, freight lifts, and conveyors at its logistics facilities.
Launching its own surface-mount line will allow Ozon to take full control of a critically important equipment layer, where hardware, assembly, and software require rapid refinement to match constantly changing business processes.
