Court Postpones 235 Million Ruble Claim Against Arctic Coal Resident and Developer of the Enisey Port

Lena United River Shipping Company Demands a General Average Contribution from Severnaya zvezda

The Arbitration Court of Krasnoyarsk Krai has postponed consideration of the claim by the Lena United River Shipping Company (LORP) against the coal mining company Severnaya zvezda until May 14, 2026. The shipping company is seeking to recover 235.5 million rubles as a "general average contribution." The court materials do not specify which particular accident is in question. The claim was filed in July 2025.

Severnaya zvezda is developing the Syradasayskoye coking coal deposit in Taymyr with reserves of 5.7 billion tonnes. The 45 billion ruble project includes an open-pit coal mine, a coal preparation plant, the Enisey seaport on the shore of the Kara Sea, and exports of up to 7 million tonnes of coal per year via the Northern Sea Route.

The current claim is not the company's first financial dispute: in 2023, it settled a debt to Severnoye morskoye parokhodstvo in the amount of 92 million rubles, and in December 2024 an attempt was made to recover 145 million rubles from it for non-payment for conveyors.

The project is also facing other difficulties. Severnaya zvezda CEO Vitaly Kulak, speaking at an industry forum held a year ago, named the main obstacles to the development of the Enisey port: a shortage of Arctic-class vessels, icebreakers, and dredging fleet, sanctions, and a high key interest rate. According to him, all this prevents the project from reaching its declared capacity of 10 million tonnes per year.
