Residents of the Leningrad Region were the first in Russia to be able to apply to an MFC without a paper passport. The new service was named "Digital ID" and operates on the basis of the national messenger MAX.
The "Digital ID" service uses biometrics or a new-generation international passport to identify a person.
To create a digital profile in MAX, it is necessary to have registered biometrics in the Unified Biometric System or a new-generation international passport, the government of the Leningrad Region explained.
In the near future, the technology will begin to be used in 15 MFC offices in the region. They are already equipped with special biometric terminals. It is expected that this will reduce service time and make document processing faster and more convenient.
Earlier, it became known that from April 1, 2026, in Russia, it became possible to check into hotels using a digital passport in the Gosuslugi app. The Ministry of Economic Development explained that the electronic document can completely replace the paper one, but only in those hotels that have themselves switched to this format and have the necessary equipment.
