Péter Magyar, the head of the Tisza party that won the elections in Hungary, did not rule out a possible revision of the agreements on the Paks-2 nuclear power plant project with the participation of Rosatom. However, the republic is in no hurry to abandon the project itself.
We will analyze all agreements. If necessary, we will revise, improve the conditions, or terminate them.
Madbyar reminded that the country remains dependent on Russian energy resources, and "geography cannot be rewritten."
The Paks-2 power plant expansion project involves the construction of two new power units. Rosatom signed a contract for their construction with the Hungarian company MVM in 2014, and a construction permit was issued in 2022.
The construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant is the first modern nuclear power plant project of Russian design with VVER-1200 reactors on the territory of the EU.
