7 Gigawatts by 2040: Rosatom to Help Indonesia with Nuclear Energy

Negotiations on a floating nuclear power plant have reached the final stage

Negotiations on the construction of a floating nuclear power plant in Indonesia have entered the final phase of discussion. This was announced by Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev on Channel One, commenting on the results of Russian-Indonesian consultations in the Kremlin.

The main dream of the Indonesian people is nuclear energy. Currently, negotiations on floating nuclear power plants are in the closest stage, although in the country's development plan, the government has set a figure of 7 GW of nuclear capacity by the 40th year. This means that we need to hurry with making decisions, and we have already put the relevant proposals on the table.

The topic of nuclear energy became one of the key topics at the meeting between the presidents of Russia and Indonesia, Vladimir Putin and Prabowo Subianto. The Russian leader previously called this area one of the most promising areas of bilateral partnership.

Rosatom's floating power units, such as the successful Russian floating nuclear power plant "Akademik Lomonosov", can effectively provide energy to remote islands of Indonesia. This technology does not require the creation of complex coastal infrastructure and can be quickly deployed.
