The Arctic elements hit Pevek on February 20 and raged for five days. The wind speed, which locals call the "southerly wind", reached 40 m/s. However, the floating nuclear power plant "Akademik Lomonosov" withstood the impact and continued to steadily supply Chukotka with energy, Rosatom reports.
The design of the vessel reliably protects the main equipment involved in generation, and the existing organizational and technical measures to protect personnel during southerly winds exclude the possibility of accidental injury to employees. Therefore, even under the onslaught of the elements, the weather on board the FNPP feels like a slight rolling.
The FNPP "Akademik Lomonosov" has been operating in the city of Pevek since the spring of 2020: it is the northernmost nuclear power plant in the world. The station is equipped with two water-cooled nuclear reactors KLT-40S and provides energy to mining enterprises in the west of Chukotka, including the Baimskaya Mining and Processing Plant and companies developing the Baimskaya ore zone.
