240 "Horses" Were Enough: K-424 Tractor of Lower Power Pulled a Giant Seeding Complex

A field test showed that the complex operates without overload and maintains stable performance

In field conditions, a combination of the Don 578 seeding complex and a K-424 tractor with a capacity of 240 horsepower was tested, NAIR reported. Initially, a machine from 300 hp was considered for the 12-meter unit, but the test showed unexpected results. The tractor confidently maintains a speed of up to 12 km/h, operates without overload and maintains stable performance. With a full hopper, the working speed is 8–10 km/h, depending on the conditions.

The Don 578 seeding complex has a working width of 11.85–12 meters and is equipped with a 10,000-liter hopper with a 60/40 split for seeds and fertilizers. The number of working bodies is 78, row spacing is 15 cm. Two-disc coulters provide pressure up to 96 kg, the seeding rate is regulated from 2 to 400 kg/ha. The complex is equipped with a SKIF-48 seeding control system, a hydraulic auger and LED lighting (8 spotlights). The weight of the unit is 12,500 kg.

The Kirovets K-424 tractor is a 4th traction class all-wheel drive machine with an articulated frame. It is equipped with a 6-cylinder YaMZ-53625 turbodiesel with a capacity of 240 hp. The gearbox is automatic, the lifting capacity of the hydraulic hitch system is up to 6000 kg. The operating weight of the tractor is 10,000 kg. The dimensions allow you to travel on public roads without a special permit.
