Rescue vessel "Georgy Titov" of project 05361 involved in exercises in the Barents Sea

Sailors will practice using the deep-sea vehicle AS-34

Exercises to search for and assist conditionally distressed vessels have started in the Barents Sea. The rescue vessel "Georgy Titov" (project 05361) with the deep-sea vehicle AS-34 on board and the tugboat "Pamir" (project 1452 "Bars") were involved. This was reported by the press service of the Northern Fleet.

Hydrographic vessels and boats, ships of the Kola Flotilla of mixed forces of the Northern Fleet were also involved in the maneuvers. Anti-submarine and search and rescue aviation will be used at certain stages.

The sailors will practice the following tasks:

  • searching for a sunken object
  • rescuing people in distress
  • assisting a large-tonnage, high-sided vessel that has been damaged as a result of a UAV attack

About the AS-34 vehicle

The deep-sea vehicle of project 18550 was laid down at the "Krasnoye Sormovo" plant in 1988. It is an autonomous mini-submarine for rescuing crews of distressed submarines and performing underwater technical work.

In 1990, the AS-34 was accepted into the Northern Fleet. Later, the vehicle was modernized at the Kanonersky plant in St. Petersburg.
