The Moon is Getting Further Away: Domestic Space Programs are Shifting by Years

The launch dates of three spacecraft to Earth's natural satellite have been postponed by several years

The launches of several Russian lunar missions are being pushed back. The "Luna-28", "Luna-29", and "Luna-30" spacecraft are now planned to be sent to Earth's satellite between 2032 and 2036. This was announced by the Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Sergey Chernyshev.

According to the updated schedule, the "Luna-29" spacecraft should be the first to launch, with its launch scheduled for 2032. Then, in 2034, the launch of "Luna-30" is planned, and the "Luna-28" mission has been postponed to 2036.

The Russian lunar program, as Chernyshev explained, is divided into two stages. The first is related to the development of technologies and the study of landing areas, the second is related to the creation of elements of the future lunar infrastructure, including bases and systems for working on the surface of the satellite.

The postponements also affect other projects. It was previously reported that the launch of the "Luna-27A" station has been shifted from 2028 to 2029, and "Luna-27B" is planned to be sent in 2030. Even earlier, the dates for the "Luna-26" mission were announced, with its launch expected in 2027.

Thus, the entire lunar program of Russia is gradually shifting forward by several years, while maintaining the phased structure of the exploration of Earth's satellite.
